How to Activate a Visa Money Card

Visa money cards are prepaid debit cards that work much like a checking account. Prepaid debit cards can be purchased and loaded with cash. You use the card as you would a checking account; you can pay for purchases or pay bills with the card. When you make a purchase, money is subtracted from the total amount on the card. The debit card also allows you to reload it with additional funds and use it to withdraw money at an ATM.

Instructions

1. Purchase your card either online or at a store. If you purchase in a store, keep your sales receipt. If you purchase it online, you will need to fill in your name and mailing information and provide other personal information such as a phone number or your Social Security number. You will need this information later to activate your card. You will need to wait for the card to arrive in the mail before activating.
2. Go online or call the phone number on the card. If you call, you might need to call from the phone that you indicated on your application for the card. The card or the enclosed agreement will have instructions on how to do this.
3. Enter your card number, activation number or other number on the card to activate it online. For example, if the card is from Walmart, you will need to keep your sales receipt and enter the activation number from the sales receipt. If you are doing this on the phone, you will need to enter it on the number pad or tell the agent on the phone.
4. Provide other information needed for verification such as a 4-digit number on the card or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number. Follow the rest of the prompts to activate your card.
